It's In The Bag

As heard on the "Hole In One" golf show on Radio Sport (Wednesday nights 8-9) this is the section where we take a look at what the Professionals have in their bags from week to week.

Each week we will choose someone who has performed well on any of the worldwide tours, and disect each club in their bag and give you an insight as to why they may have chosen to set up their bag in this particular way.

Our resident PGA Professional Phillip Rust will also weigh in from a technical viewpoint on why a player has chosen to include certain clubs in their bag.

This week's "In The Bag" is:

Bryce Molder (U.S.A.)

Bryce Molder became a PGA TOUR winner after 131 starts and six playoff holes at the Frys.com Open, defeating Briny Baird on the sixth playoff hole.....

Driver: Titleist 909 D3 (9.5°) with Mitsubishi Diamana shaft.

Phil - "This is the previous model for Titleist and so obviously Bryce is very comfortable with this setup. The 909 has a very traditional tear shape head with emphasis on keeping weight away from the clubface. Bryce chooses the D3 model which is the slightly smaller of the 2 head options".

Fairway Wood: Titleist 909F2 (13.5°) with Mitsubishi Diamana (White) shaft.

Phil - "Like the Driver, Bryce hasn't moved to Titleist's new model woods, sticking with the very popular 909 series. Keeping your Fairway Wood consistent with your Driver is a very common theme with Pro's, especially if you use your Fairway Wood off the tee, as Bryce does. The 13.5° loft gives him the option to use it as a second driver, while alsio having enough loft to use off the fairway."

Hybrid: Titleist 910H (20°) with Fujikura Speeder shaft.

Phil - "The one exception to the rule in Bryce's bag is his hybrid. In this instance he has moved to Titleist's latest model, the 910. 20° of loft is equivalent to his 3 iron but with Titleist's adjustability in their 910 range he can strengthen this to play more like a 2 iron if the course requires a little more length."

Irons: Titleist 712CB (3-9) with Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts

Phil - "These are a favourite with many Titleist Tour players. The CB is the slightly more forgiving of their two blade models, yet still offers the classic zero-offset look at address that would appeal to the better player. Bryce goes for the stock-standard Dynamic Gold shaft in his irons, so theoretically this is a set of irons that you could walk into most golf stores and purchase."

Wedges: Titleist Vokey design TVD 48°, 54° and 60° (C.C. spin milled) with Dynamic Gold shafts.

Phil - "Still one of the most popular wedges on the market, the Vokey's are a classic tear-drop shape that has been preferred by all levels of golfer for many years now. Bryce here opts for the standard split wedge lofts of 48, 54 and 60. This covers all bases for his full shots from the fairway while offering him versatility with shots around the greens."

Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2.7.

Phil - "This is one of Scotty Cameron's slightly older models, being produced in 2008. Obviously this is a shape that suits Bryce and he has stuck with it. The headshape is similar to the traditional Ping Anser style but the shaft has a single (high-neck) bend which helps you get over the ball more and put a consistent stroke on the putter."

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

Phil - "The most popular ball worldwide with both Pro's and amateurs, the Pro V1 sets the standard for all others to follow. Bryce chooses to play the lower-spinning of the two Pro V1 models. This will give him a lower, more penetrating ball flight off the tee, while still giving hom the control he required around the greens. "
