Mike

Mike has been coaching in the Auckland area for the last twenty one years. Seven at The Remuera Golf Club and for the last fourteen years at The Auckland Golf Club. Since turning pro in 1972, Mike has played tournament golf in New Zealand, Australia, The Pacific, The United States and Canada until 1984 with commendable success winning a number of Pro-Ams and setting 12 course records along the way. The most recent being a round of 67 at Kauri Cliffs in Northland which still stands.

Since becoming a teaching professional Mike has become one of Auckland's most respected teaching golf coaches utilizing the very latest in computer aided teaching tools such as the V1 Swing Analysis System and S.A.M Putting Analysis solution.

Mike's golf coaching has seen him teaching in schools around Australia, The Pacific Rim and The United States. As the resident Professional at Auckland Golf Club Mike's coaching expertise is available by appointment at the Auckland Golf Club where he runs golf schools and Junior Holiday development programs and personalized programs for players of all levels of skill. When he is not coaching Mike also leads member based golf tours to many of the world's greatest golfing locations. Last year's trip was to Ireland and included the Ryder Cup.

Golf Schools

Mike has run golf schools at Wairakei / Bay of Islands / Denarau for over thirty years. He still runs a Wairakei Golf School and this year he has a three day course at Wairakei running from Thursday 27th to Saturday 29th of November.

Golf Lessons

Mike's teaching philosophy differs depending on the pupil's abilities. For beginners he stresses the set up, getting the club to swing on plane and understanding the correct impact position. For the better golfer he leans towards a one plane swing, quiet hands through impact with perfect balance.

Computer Aided Swing Analysis

Mike uses the most preferred video analysis systems in sports. The V1 Pro Video Analysis and the S.A.M (Science And Motion) Puttlab systems.

Tours

Mike has been taking golf tours overseas for over twenty years. Either through Ireland / Scotland or the West Coast of America. He has escorted seven tours to The Masters where he arranges small groups from New Zealand to take in the sights & and sounds of what is arguably the worlds greatest sporting event. Closer to home he escorts a short tour each year to the famous Sand Belt area of Melbourne in April / May.

COMPUTER PUTTING ANALYSIS-SAM

Tiger swears by this putting system, need I say anything else. Have you ever seen anyone putt better? It is named SAM and uses ultra sound to measure 28 factors in your putting stroke. Only for the really serious pupils as it is not an overnight fix, it takes many sessions to overhaul your stroke. See me if you are interested. The winter months are a good time to use this system as all the measuring and practice takes place upstairs in my teaching area.

HOW SAM WORKS

When putting smallest movements can decide everything. S.A.M PuttLab uses state of the art ultrasound technology and specific mathematic algorithms for precise measurement of the relevant putting parameters. S.A.M Puttlab comprises the SAM MotionAnalyzer (Hardware) and the S.A.M PuttWare (Software).

For the measurement a light sensor triplet is attached to the club shaft. The measurement device (MotionAnalyzer) then transfers the registered movement data to a computer via USB. The intelligent SAM PuttWare automatically evaluates the putting strokes, calculates all relevant parameters - e.g. rotation, acceleration, swing duration or impact - and graphically displays the results.

The data reveal precise information on how to improve your game, e.g club face angle or sweetspot, and how to tailor individual training strategies.
